Overview
Shaping our future city is a multi-user interactive installation Lightwell created in collaboration with Scienceworks in Melbourne. The installation allows visitors to construct their own future sustainable home, and look after their future city through a series of fun activities.
Visitors step into the central large-scale interactive projection to complete different activities, using their own body - for example, angling their arms to direct water droplets into rain tanks, clapping to drop seeds and grow native plants, waving their arms to spin wind turbines to power the city, and more.
Touchscreens on either side of the activity area provide visitors with an opportunity to create their own future sustainable home from a kit of parts. At the end, their building is given a sustainability rating, and is sent to the central projection, becoming part of the cityscape background. This city background changes over time as visitors contribute their creations.
